AL UDEID AIR BASE, Qatar – Members of 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne) conducted an Advanced Special Operations Threat Reduction Course (SOTRC) with the Qatari Internal Security Forces (QISF) at Zekrete Military Training Compound, Qatar, Sept. 11-22, 2021.
SOTRC, a two-week training program for more than 30 officers from the QISF, incorporated advanced combat marksmanship, medical, communications, mobility, mission planning and mission execution.
The training focused on crisis response scenarios which were used to evaluate the readiness and capabilities of Qatari forces as they respond to a regional emergency. The QISF refined and continued to develop threat response skills as part of the Qatari’s preparation for hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup, scheduled to take place in Doha next year.
“I feel the that the Qataris are in a good place going into the Arab Cup and will be prepared when the eyes of the world are on them for the World Cup 2022” said a U.S. Special Forces team sergeant.
Maj. Gen Abdul Aziz Bin Faisal bin Mohammed Al-Thani, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior and Commander of the Lekhwiya Force, met with the trainees Sept. 19 to monitor their progress. During his visit, he expressed much gratitude for the training and is looking forward for U.S. Special Forces to return in the future for more training opportunities.
At the graduation, members of the U.S. Special Forces team presented the QISF with a plaque of appreciation for their hard work and dedication.
“This was an exciting training event due to the opportunity to work with officers from each branch of the QISF as well as two officers from the Emiri Guard” said the team’s assistant detachment commander.
The training not only helps prepares Qatar for the upcoming World Cup, but also fine tunes their crisis response capabilities for any real-world event. The training also strengthens military-to-military relationships and promotes regional security in the U.S. Central Command’s area of operations.
