Perhaps the fourth time will be the charm to rename a portion of Route 394 in Randolph in honor of Staff Sgt. David Textor, a Randolph native who was killed in Mosul, Iraq in 2008.
State Sen. George Borrello, R-Sunset Bay, has reintroduced legislation to rename part of Route 394 in Textor’s honor. Similar legislation has passed the Senate in each of the past four years but hasn’t made it to the state Assembly floor for a vote.
A similar bill passed the Senate Transportation Committee earlier this year, but Borrello withdrew the bill and reintroduced it last week.
Textor served in Iraq assigned to the United States Army’s Company A, 3rd Battalion, 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne). Textor began the Special Forces Qualification Course in May 2005 and he earned his “Green Beret” in November 2006. Textor’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal with campaign star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon with Numeral “2” device, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, Parachutist Badge, Ranger Tab, and the Special Forces Tab.
The Randolph Town Board expressed its desire to honor Staff Sergeant Textor, and by unanimous vote, adopted a formal resolution requesting the legislation.
